About Greensand Way
The greensand ridge is a geological feature running east through Surrey and Kent — a band of sandstone that creates a line of heathland, woodland and commons between the chalk of the North Downs and the clay vale to the south. The Greensand Way follows this ridge from the Surrey/Hampshire border to the Kent coast hinterland.
For trail runners it is a three to four day route on well-surfaced heathland and woodland paths. Leith Hill (294 m, the highest point in south-east England), the Surrey Hills AONB and the Weald of Kent are the main attractions.
The route
Haslemere to Dorking (~45 km): Through the Surrey Hills AONB. Leith Hill (294 m, with tower, National Trust) is the high point and the finest viewpoint in south-east England.
Dorking to Reigate to Sevenoaks (~65 km): Through the eastern Surrey heathland and into Kent.
Sevenoaks to Hamstreet (~64 km): The Weald of Kent — orchards, oast houses and the flat Kent plain.
