About Lake District 24

The Lake District 24 provides a natural stepping stone between a demanding fell run and the full Bob Graham Round — a selection of 24 significant Lakeland summits designed to be completed within 24 hours. Various versions exist, each selecting summits that form a logical circuit while giving a comprehensive tour of the fells.

The challenge has no official keeper or fixed route — different runners use different peak selections. The concept allows ambitious fell runners to train for and attempt a timed mountain round without the full commitment of the BGR.

The route

The most common 24-peak variants focus on one of the Lake District's main fell groups: the eastern fells (Helvellyn range and High Street), the central fells (Scafells and Bowfell) or the northern fells (Blencathra and the Skiddaw group). Most circuits start from Keswick or Ambleside.

Getting there & logistics

Base: Keswick or Ambleside — the main gateways to the Lake District. Bus and train connections via Windermere.

Best time: June to September for maximum daylight.

Safety

Full mountain navigation skills required — the same hazards as the Bob Graham Round apply. In an emergency: call 999 or 112, ask for Police then Mountain Rescue. Pre-register SMS 999.
