Shropshire Way
The Shropshire Way is a 322 km circular route through Shropshire from Shrewsbury — looping through the Shropshire Hills AONB, the Long Mynd, the Stiperstones, the Welsh border country and the Clun Forest in a comprehensive tour of England's most underrated county.
This route has no official waymarking. Serious navigation experience is required — do not rely on GPS alone. Carry OS 1:25,000 maps and study the line before you go.
About Shropshire Way
Shropshire is the least-visited county in England with a motorway — and its hills form one of the most complete Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the country. The Shropshire Way circles the county from Shrewsbury in a long loop through the finest landscapes: the Long Mynd plateau, the quartzite ridge of the Stiperstones, Wenlock Edge and the remote Clun Forest.
For trail runners it is a six to eight day challenge on excellent terrain — the Shropshire Hills give real fell running, while the valleys and market towns provide easy logistics. The views west into Wales from the Long Mynd and Stiperstones are outstanding.
The route
Shrewsbury south to Church Stretton (~50 km): Across the suburban fringe and into the Shropshire Hills. Church Stretton is the main hub.

Clun to Ludlow (~50 km): Through the Clun Forest and south Shropshire valleys.
Ludlow to Ironbridge to Shrewsbury (~162 km): East via Wenlock Edge, Much Wenlock and the Ironbridge Gorge (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
