The wildflower meadows around Muker are some of the best in England — run this in June and the yellow and purple display below you is genuinely special.

A beautiful circuit taking in Wild Boar Fell, Swarth Fell and Swarth Fell Pike, and open fell with sweeping views down Swaledale.

The route

Muker is one of the most attractive villages in the Dales, famous for its wildflower meadows. The route circuits Kisdon Hill — not a high summit at 499m but a shapely fell that divides Swaledale from Keld.

The Corpse Road

The historic Corpse Road from Keld to Grinton was used to carry the dead to Grinton church before Muker had its own. The route follows part of this ancient way along the hillside, with good views into both valleys.

The meadows

Returning through Aisgill Moor, the flower-rich hay meadows are a highlight — best in June and July when the traditional meadow species are in full bloom.

Watch out for

Some boggy ground on the fell top. The riverside path can flood after heavy rain.
