Heights Ultra Trail

Heights Ultra Trail (HUT, run as HUTFEST) is a volunteer-run trail festival in the Colne Valley above Huddersfield, organised by the Heights Federation. One September Saturday offers a 50-mile and a 50km ultra, a 27km trail race and a 10km, all circular routes over the moors, reservoirs and Pennine paths between Linthwaite, Holme and Standedge, plus a junior fun run. It is a charity event: money left over goes to local rural primary schools, and it also raises funds for local mountain rescue, with free places held for active search and rescue members. Routes are waymarked but the ultras carry mandatory kit including a compass, and the organisers are known for well-stocked checkpoints. Races are licensed by the TRA under UKA rules.
