5 reviews is not enough to rank races by, and we are not going to pretend otherwise — a five-star average from one review is one person’s day out. It becomes useful somewhere around ten reviews a race, which is why yours matters more than it would on a bigger site.

Lakes in a Day

Lake District top to bottom in one day

This is such a great race. Probably one of my favourite races ever. You just can't beat the Lakes and this takes you top to bottom in a straight line. Starting out in the less visited Northern Fells you get quiet paths and trails before the long slog up to Mungrisedale Common before heading off down one of the best descents around - Halls Fell which can be a proper nightmare when wet. Clough Head and the Helvellyn range follows and then that cheeky little drop down to Grizedale Tarn and the big climb up to Fairfield. The descent to Ambleside feels a lot longer than it should and your legs are starting to feel it so it's hard work. The route changes from the big climbs and descents into more rolling terrain around Windermere before finishing in Cartmel. I've ran it a few times and the first time the water was waist deep around Windermere because of a recent storm. Do it, it's a great route and well organised.

Yorkshire Reservoir Dogs

Fast and furious tour of the reservoirs

My last course record still standing !!! I normally prefer the big mountain races, but you can't beat a Punk Panther race, and this is just down the road from me - perfect. The route is stunning, and on really good runnable paths, so it's a quick race. It would make a great first ultra marathon for anyone thinking of trying a longer distance. Taking in most if not all of the reservoirs in the area it's a very scenic route. Thruscross is definitely my favourite as it feels a little more remote and less busy but Swinsty and Fewston are beautiful on a good day. I was feeling pretty good so just went for it. All was going well until Harewood House when I had a little wobble and slowed significantly for teh last 10 miles. Just hanging on as best I could missing out on my target time by 8 mins. It's a shame the 50 isn't on anymore but i'll hopefully be back for the 34 mile race this year.

Snowdon Ultra 100

Beat me

I dnf'd at mile 65 due to getting a bit lost and having to bash through wet bracken which made me too cold to get moving again. Couldn't get warm again. Gutted. The route is stunning and you can't beat a summit of Eryri in a race. Really enoyed the route before I dropped out

Dales Dazzler

Great route with very mixed terrain

Being a Skipton local, I knew most of the route. It starts with a decent, long runnable climb up to Pinhaw Beacon, where it joins the Pennine Way all the way to Gargrave. Onto the canal for a few miles tests the legs before you wind your way back through Embsay and Skipton Woods and onto the canal for a sprint finish. Punk Panther marshals are always great and the races are well organised. Highly recommended. Would do it again

Skipton Skedaddle

Stunning

Such a great route. Some great trails through to Malham and then a pretty flat run back to Skipton along the Pennine Way to Gargrave.

How we check reviews

One runner, one review

Everyone signs in before a review is posted, so one person cannot leave five. We read every review before it goes up, usually the same day.

What “Result verified” means

We matched the reviewer to the published results for that running. It is the only badge we use, and an email address alone does not earn it.

Organisers can reply, not delete

An organiser can claim their page and answer any review, including a critical one. If something is factually wrong we will correct it; a bad day is a legitimate thing for the next runner to read. We do not pay for reviews and we do not accept payment to remove them.
