Lake District top to bottom in one day
This is such a great race. Probably one of my favourite races ever. You just can't beat the Lakes and this takes you top to bottom in a straight line. Starting out in the less visited Northern Fells you get quiet paths and trails before the long slog up to Mungrisedale Common before heading off down one of the best descents around - Halls Fell which can be a proper nightmare when wet. Clough Head and the Helvellyn range follows and then that cheeky little drop down to Grizedale Tarn and the big climb up to Fairfield. The descent to Ambleside feels a lot longer than it should and your legs are starting to feel it so it's hard work. The route changes from the big climbs and descents into more rolling terrain around Windermere before finishing in Cartmel. I've ran it a few times and the first time the water was waist deep around Windermere because of a recent storm. Do it, it's a great route and well organised.
