What you’re in for
Nine kilometres and 500m of climb over Carrock Fell and High Pike from Calebreck car park above Caldbeck — an FRA short, category AS, at eleven on a Sunday in March. Two checkpoints, the summits, and you find your own way between them: the route is not marked, GPS is not allowed, and the kit is the FRA list — taped waterproofs, hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle, food. Entry on the day only, sixteen and over, and a fiver for members.
Terrain and trail
Steep grass and heather onto Carrock, the rocky summit, then the boggy plateau across to High Pike and the fast grassy descent back. Fell-race navigation. A fell shoe.
