You can't beat Derwentwater. The scenery is stunning, and when the light hits the water its just beautiful. We took a detour up to Surprise View, and it's a stunning viewpoint. Well worth the extra bit of climbing. This is a great route if you want scenery but packaged into a nice, easy-to-navigate run

This was my go to route when training for the Lavaredo 120 km race in the Dolomites. I wanted the toughest route I could find that wasn't too far from Staveley where I was working and this is what I came up with. Fairfield and Helvellyn twice in a single outing - what's not to love.

Embsay Crag from Skipton

Within about a minute of running, you're into the woods and away from the hustle and bustle of town. The drag up to the crag feels very long but its runnable so doesn't take too long. The views across Skipton towards Pendle Hill are pretty rewarding and you get a fast descent back towards Embsay. You can cut back into the woods or follow the road back to town. This is a great route and can be extended out over Barden Moor if you wish.

Skipton Moor and Farnhill Pinnacle

A run of 2 halves. First half is good trails on the moors with a fair bit of climbing. It's a long drag up to Skipton Moor and some parts are quite steep. The descent down to Bradley is fast and easy so you can get your foot down. Farnhill Pinnacle is looking magnificent now it's been repainted and whilst only a short section, the terrain on Farnhill Moor it is good fun. You can always stop for a coffee and cake at Crag and Coffee which is just off the route as you drop onto the dirt road off the moor. It's a good old slog back to Skipton along the canal so save your legs for that. One of my favourite routes from Skipton. Has something for everyone

Good tracks the whole route. The heather is out at the moment so it's a sea of purple. Views are great. You can see towards Simons Seat and Upper Wharfedale and across to Beamsley Beacon and Ilkley.
