Routes Jason Millward has run
VERY HARDBen Vorlich and Stuc a' Chroin
Two summits, a proper scramble, and loch views to the south. The crux between the two peaks is short but hands-on — check conditions before you commit.
HARDAmbleside Low Level Loop
Rydal Water, Grasmere, woodland paths, and those views - all without setting foot on a major fell. This is what the Lakes are for on an easy-legs day.
EXPERT
Skipton Round
You circle Skipton on a huge loop through the quieter country of Craven, linking moor edge, riverside and old field paths that most runners pass through but never string together.
VERY HARDBurnsall Half from the Wharfe
You get one of the prettiest stretches of the River Wharfe, the stepping stones and the hump-backed bridge at Burnsall, wrapped into a proper dale circuit rather than a quick there-and-back.
VERY HARDFewston, Swinsty and Stainburn from Harrogate
You link two of Yorkshire's prettiest reservoirs and a quiet forest into one long circuit, with reservoir-side trails that keep the running fast and flowing for most of the distance.
HARDLunds Tower and Wainmans Pinnacle from Crosshills
You get onto the quiet western shoulder of Rombalds Moor, away from the Ilkley crowds, with wide views over Wharfedale one way and Airedale the other for a short, sharp climb.
EXPERTSkipton 6 Peaks
Six distinct summits in one big day, a proper local challenge that strings together the gritstone crags and moors ringing Skipton.
HARDEasy Malham Loop
Two of the Dales' most famous limestone features on one short, almost flat loop, perfect for an easy day or a first taste of trail running in Malhamdale.
VERY HARDWalla Crag, Castle Crag and Derwentwater from Keswick
Two contrasting little Wainwrights on one long lap, the airy edge of Walla Crag above Derwentwater and the steep slate cone of Castle Crag deep in Borrowdale.
HARDCatbells from Keswick
You earn the Catbells summit the long way, with kilometres of lakeside running each side of the climb and no car needed from Keswick.
MODERATESkipton Woods and Canal
Castle woods on the way out, canal on the way back. Skipton has better trail running on its doorstep than most people realise, and this circuit shows it.
MODERATEBurnsall and Appletreewick
One of the more relaxed runs in the Dales — gentle underfoot, easy navigation, and two good pubs along the way. The Wharfe is at its limestone best through here.
HARDBarden Moor from Embsay Reservoir
Big moorland miles and some really nice fast and flowing trails. Covers proper ground without the serious climbing of the Dales fells.
HARDBarden Moor Long Loop
This loop crosses genuine open moorland with long sightlines over Wharfedale, on access land that's free to roam off the main tracks if you want to vary your line.
VERY HARDSkipton to Saltaire Along the Canal
Zero metres of climbing over 25.6km means this is pure running, not hill work - a good route for working on pace and distance without terrain getting in the way.
HARDSkipton Moor and Farnhill Pinnacle
More rewarding than it looks from the map. Skipton Moor has a real open-sky feel, and Farnhill Pinnacle is a genuinely odd and photogenic landmark.
Reviews
Skipton Round
★★★★★
I created this route during covid when the Hardwolds 80 was cancelled due to lock down. I wanted to link up all the peaks surrounding Skipton in one loop. Its an absolute beast of a route and the weather got pretty tasty towards the end

Skipton 6 Peaks
★★★★★
This route is a proper test. Links in some of the bigger climbs in the area and the run down from the war memorial to Embsay reservoir is so much fun. Highly recommended but its a tough day out
