What you’re in for
The winter edition of Excalibur uses two shorter loops from the Coed Moel Famau car park on the Clwydian Range: a 17km with 843m of climbing and a 10km with 412m. Both reach Moel Famau and the Jubilee Tower and use mainly trails and footpaths, some of them technical, over farmland and open hill. The routes are signed and marshalled, but you get a waterproof map at registration and must carry full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, compass, whistle and a bottle (the 17km also needs emergency food). There are no cut-offs. Hot soup is served at the finish, prizegiving is at noon, and the car park charges £6 (card only).
