Excalibur Trail Races
Clwydian Range, near Ruthin and Mold
Excalibur Trail Races are hill trail races on the Clwydian Range above Ruthin and Mold, organised by Running Head First CIC with support from Run True. Every route starts and finishes at the Coed Moel Famau car park and summits Moel Famau and the Jubilee Tower, with Iron Age hillforts and plenty of Arthurian legend on the longer courses. There are two events a year: a summer marathon, half and 10k in May, and a winter 17km and 10km in early November. Routes are signed and marshalled, with Mountain Rescue on hand, but you are given a waterproof map and must carry full waterproofs, a compass and a whistle, as finding the way is ultimately your responsibility. Bring your own bottle, as there are no cups at checkpoints. Dogs on a harness or lead are welcome in canicross waves. Car park charges apply, and proceeds go to Running Head First's mental and physical health work.
