What you’re in for
The October lap race at Knaresborough, a ten-k-ish up to the 52.3km ultra, five laps of the 6.5-mile course. The course is a 6.5-mile lap from the start of the Beryl Burton Cycleway in the park at Knaresborough — not Mother Shipton's Cave, the organiser is at pains to say — climbing gently through the parkland and out along the old Harrogate railway line before turning back. Once for the ten-k-ish, twice for the half, three for the twenty, four for the marathon, five for the ultra.
Terrain and trail
Tarmac cycleway, gravel path and grass, undulating rather than hilly. Firm enough that the organiser advises road shoes, and quick ground for a lap course. Some walker and cycle traffic on the railway path at weekends. Feed stations roughly every three miles with drinks, sweets and cake, and the events are cup-less, so bring your own cup or bottle. A GPX is supplied and not every junction has a marshal, so know where the turn is. Over-ear headphones are not allowed, and some road crossings are unmarshalled.
