Broadstruther and Gains Law from Wooler
It gets you deep into the quiet northern Cheviots without a single big climb, and the last 6km on St Cuthbert's Way over Gains Law is genuinely fast running with the whole Milfield plain in front of you.

About this route
A 20.3km loop from Wooler through Happy Valley and over Hart Heugh to the Carey Burn, out to the old shepherd's house at Broadstruther, then north across open moor and home on St Cuthbert's Way over Gains Law.
Hazards & notes
The 4km of open moor between Broadstruther and Tom Tallon's Crag has faint paths and almost no features to navigate by, and it is genuinely confusing in cloud. Bracken is chest-high on the lower slopes by late summer, hiding both the path and the ticks. Adders are active on this ground from spring to autumn.
Emergency
Call 999 or 112 → ask for Police → request Mountain Rescue. Register Emergency SMS: text "register" to 999.
