The Rotary Club of Bala and Penllyn have run the Bala Challenge for twenty years: eight, fourteen and twenty-mile routes over moorland, forest and grazing on the hills around Llyn Tegid and the Aran ridge, walkers and runners together, with the option of coming home by steam train from Llanuwchllyn. Proceeds go to the air ambulance, mountain rescue and local causes.
