What you’re in for
Twenty miles with 1,219m of climb round Llyn Tegid and over the Aran ridge from the leisure centre at Bala, or fourteen miles with 762m, or eight with 518m and the steam train back from Llanuwchllyn. Early May, ten hours, 350 places, self-navigated with GPX files published beforehand. A Rotary fundraiser that has become the biggest hill-walking and running day in the area.
Terrain and trail
Lakeside path and lane round Llyn Tegid, forest track, then open mountain on the Aran ridge — grassy, peaty and exposed, with the long descent back to the lake. Wet on the tops in May. A trail shoe with grip.
