What you’re in for

Fifty miles from Shotley on the Suffolk coast, where the Orwell and the Stour meet, in mid-September — a joint event between the Essex & Herts and Norfolk & Suffolk groups, with the route details still to come from the organisers. An LDWA challenge event, which means walkers and runners together, a route description to navigate by rather than tape, checkpoints with food and drink, and a meal at the end. Entry is through the LDWA's own system, places are limited, and the ones in this list tend to fill early.

Terrain and trail

Estuary sea wall, river path, field edge and lane on the Shotley peninsula and the country behind it — flat, exposed to the wind off the water, and firm in September except on the clay. A road shoe with tread.
