About this route
A 13.8km loop from Ambleside through Skelghyll Woods to Jenkin Crag, then over Loughrigg above Rydal, with around 520m of climbing. The classic Lakeland Trails race route, mixing woodland and fell with lake views throughout.
Hazards & notes
Loughrigg's web of paths confuses in cloud, so carry a map on the fell. Woodland tracks are slick when wet, and the popular paths are busy in season. Rocky and boggy sections underfoot on the higher ground.
Emergency
Call 999 or 112 → ask for Police → request Mountain Rescue. Register Emergency SMS: text "register" to 999.
