What you’re in for
Eastbourne and the Seven Sisters — the white chalk cliffs, and the rolling downland behind them, with the Channel out to one side the whole way. Chalk and forest, rated strenuous: the marathon carries 4,196 ft and the ultra 5,266 ft, which for the South Downs is a lot, and it comes in the repeated drops and climbs over the Sisters. Fully marked, no navigation.
