What you’re in for
A map-reading event from Pitstone memorial hall on the first Sunday in March, with questions to answer on the way: twenty-six, eighteen or thirteen miles of the Chilterns, all back by half past six. The route comes as grid references and clues rather than a description, so the navigation is the event. An LDWA challenge event, which means walkers and runners together, a route description to navigate by rather than tape, checkpoints with food and drink, and a meal at the end. Entry is through the LDWA's own system, places are limited, and the ones in this list tend to fill early.
Terrain and trail
Chalk escarpment and beech wood around Ivinghoe and the Ashridge estate: flinty track, rooty woodland path, steep grassy scarp and March mud in the fields. A trail shoe.
