What you’re in for
Twenty-seven or eighteen miles of Charnwood from the Brush Bowls Club at Loughborough in late March: the Outwoods, Blackbrook reservoir, Mount St Bernard Abbey and Bardon Hill, with Bradgate Park and Swithland Woods added on the long route. Eleven and a half hours. An LDWA challenge event, which means walkers and runners together, a route description to navigate by rather than tape, checkpoints with food and drink, and a meal at the end. Entry is through the LDWA's own system, places are limited, and the ones in this list tend to fill early.
Terrain and trail
Rocky outcrop, bracken and heath in the Charnwood woods and parks — the oldest rock in England, and it shows — with field path and lane between, and the short sharp climb of Bardon Hill. Muddy in March. A trail shoe.
