What you’re in for
Three different ten-mile loops from Tilford village hall in mid-February, so ten, twenty or thirty miles of Surrey heath and woodland, all back by half past six. The first running. An LDWA challenge event, which means walkers and runners together, a route description to navigate by rather than tape, checkpoints with food and drink, and a meal at the end. Entry is through the LDWA's own system, places are limited, and the ones in this list tend to fill early.
Terrain and trail
Sandy heath track and pine woodland round Frensham and Hankley — soft sand in the dry, good drainage in the wet — with riverside path along the Wey and a few short climbs. Easier underfoot than most of Surrey in February. A trail shoe.
