What you’re in for
Wild Deer's first event in the south east: a 10km or a half marathon through Alice Holt Forest, the Forestry England woodland on the Surrey–Hampshire border near Farnham. The 10km winds through the forest into Abbotts Wood and comes back a different way; the half is two laps of it with extra loops spliced in to make the distance. The 10km is 10.2km with 133m of climb, the half 20.3km with 266m — enough to notice, not enough to walk. A late-June date, so expect it dry and dusty rather than muddy.
Terrain and trail
Forestry track and woodland path, firm and fast in summer, with the roots and ruts you get in any working forest. Nothing technical and nothing steep; the climbing is long, gentle drags between the blocks of trees. Fully signed, with a feed station on the way round. A road shoe with some tread will do.
