What you’re in for
A 10km, a half or a full trail marathon through Dalby Forest at the end of November, from Adderstone Field in the middle of the forest — a few miles beyond the visitor centre. The routes follow the forest roads out to the edges where the views open across the North York Moors. The 10km is 10.0km, the half 21.8km and the marathon 43.5km. The organiser calls it one of the best trail venues in the country and the winter timing is deliberate: cold, clear and quiet.
Terrain and trail
Forest fire road almost throughout — wide, compacted gravel that drains well and runs fast even in winter, with the odd section of softer path between blocks. Dalby is not flat, though: the roads roll up and down the valleys of the forest all day, and the marathon adds up. A road shoe with tread or a light trail shoe.
