What you’re in for
The November round of the Hardmoors 26.2 series, out of Goathland — the village on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway — onto the moor tops around it, with the steam trains on the line below. The Half and Marathon routes were changed in 2025 for forestry closures and may revert, so the description you download is the one that counts. The Trail 10K is 12.0km with 335m of climb, the Trail Half 26.6km with 640m, the Trail Marathon 43.6km with 977m. Start at eight.
Terrain and trail
Moorland track, heather path, forest road through the plantations and some steep valley sides around the becks. November on the moors means bog on the tops, mud in the forest and short daylight; the Marathon will have people finishing in the gloom. A trail shoe with grip and the full kit. Hardmoors 26.2 races are not taped or signed. You navigate yourself from the route description and map they publish — printed, in a freezer bag, because the kit check at registration looks for them — and a GPX on a watch is a back-up, not a substitute. Cup-free at the checkpoints and the finish. Full mandatory kit carried for the whole race, and the organiser's line on the moors is worth repeating: do not underestimate them.
