What you’re in for
A 10km or a half marathon along Druridge Bay on the Northumberland coast, from the country park, on paths, dune trails and the beach itself. Sixth year, and the organiser's most popular trail run in the north east, because it is flat, it is beautiful and it is in January when there is little else on. The 10km is 10.2km with 20m of climb; the half is 21.1km with 23m. About as flat as trail running gets, which is the strapline and also just true.
Terrain and trail
Country park paths, grass, dune track and firm sand along the bay. The beach is the fastest ground if the tide is out and the slowest if it is soft, and the wind off the North Sea is the whole difficulty in January. A road shoe with tread, and something windproof.
