What you’re in for

Five or ten miles in the private grounds of Glamis Castle in early December, with a family mile for the children. Glamis is one of the best-known castles in Scotland and the grounds are not usually open to runners, which is most of the appeal. Dogs welcome, festive kit encouraged. The 5 Mile is 8.5km with 44m of climb; the 10 Mile is 17.1km with 88m. Flat, in other words — the Strathmore floor is level and the estate drives are easy.

Terrain and trail

Estate roads, parkland and woodland track, firm and fast, with grass sections that will be soft in December. Nothing technical. Road shoes are fine; take gloves.
