What you’re in for
Glamis Castle to Stirling Castle, a hundred miles in 48 hours, over the August bank holiday weekend — the second leg of the castle-to-castle trilogy, and the more remote of the two, skirting the hills on the southern edge of the Highlands with more than 1,000m of climb. Eight pit stops with hot food at some, sleep stations at the sixth, seventh and eighth, and cut-offs that only apply after the sixth at around sixty miles, set for a walker at four kilometres an hour. Mostly trail to pit stop six and mostly road after it. Fully waymarked with orange arrows, mandatory kit and spot checks.
Terrain and trail
Forest road, estate track, glen path and lane through Perthshire in the first sixty miles, then tarmac and cycle path for most of the run in to Stirling. Rolling rather than mountainous, but remote and exposed on the first night. Marked. A road shoe with tread or a cushioned trail shoe.
