What you’re in for

Forty-five kilometres from sea level in Lochaber to the summit of Ben Nevis — the highest point in Britain — on a marked course from Fort William. October.

Terrain and trail

Glen track and forest road to the foot of the mountain, then the pony track: 1,345m of stone-pitched zigzags to a summit plateau that can be in cloud, wind or snow in October while the glen is mild. Marked, but full mountain kit is not optional. A trail shoe with grip.
