What you’re in for
Sixty miles round the Isle of Arran over two days from Fisherman's Walk in Brodick: day one south through the coast and forested hills, 28 miles with about 1,070m of climb; day two north into the mountains over Goatfell, the highest point on the island, and across what the organiser calls the Bog of Doom, 30 miles with 1,830m. Mid-April. Pit stops at 9.5, 14.5 and 23 miles on the Saturday and 11.5 and 20 on the Sunday, with a mountain cut-off at the Saddle at ten past four. Fully waymarked with orange arrows and blue flags, and the ferry is part of the trip.
Terrain and trail
Coast path, boardwalk, forest road and village tarmac on day one; glen track, the stony climb and rocky ridge of Goatfell, and deep peat bog on day two. April in the Arran hills can be snow, sleet or sun. Marked. A trail shoe with grip, and the kit list for the mountain day.
