What you’re in for
A hundred kilometres of the Ridgeway, Britain's oldest road, from Lewknor to the standing stones at Avebury — 100.4km with 1,103m of climb on the GPX, 1,350m on the organiser's count — in one go on the Saturday with thirty hours, or split over two days with a basecamp at Lattin Down. Two 50Ks: the Thames Valley from Lewknor to Lattin Down, crossing the river at halfway, and the Ridgeline from Lattin Down to Avebury on the Sunday. Seven pit stops, marking every few metres, medics throughout, bag transfer. The second weekend in July, and one of the biggest ultra fields in the country.
Terrain and trail
Chiltern chalk, beech wood and field path to the Thames, then the open Ridgeway: broad chalk-and-flint drove road across the downs, rutted, exposed and mostly runnable. Non-technical, in the organiser's words, and firm in a dry July. Signed. A road shoe with tread.
