What you’re in for

A December marathon and half marathon on the byways and established footpaths of Salisbury Plain, the big military training area west of Andover. The ground is open rolling chalk with long climbs, rutted tracks and hard stony military roads, and almost nothing to shelter you from the wind. The organisers say past editions have mostly had harsh weather, so pack for cold and wet and wear trail shoes. The route is fully signed the day before, with stocked aid stations, marshals at main road crossings and medical cover. Start and finish is at Old Fowler Barracks near Ludgershall; the exact what3words pin is sent before the race.
