What you’re in for

Harlyn Bay south to Perranporth Airfield on the Sunday of Arc weekend: 49km on the GPX with 1,209m of climb (organiser: 49.4km and 1,458m), a nine o'clock start, nine hours. Round Trevose Head, past Porthcothan and Mawgan Porth, through Newquay, out over Polly Joke and Holywell Bay and along Perran Sands to the finish. Three checkpoints with food, drink, shelter and toilets, mandatory kit carried throughout. The coast path's own waymarking with some extra from the organiser; prior trail experience recommended rather than required.

Terrain and trail

Cliff path and headland from Harlyn to Newquay with steep drops into every cove, town pavement through Newquay, then dune and beach — Holywell and the long Perran Sands, soft going in January — before the last climb to the airfield. Exposed to the Atlantic all the way. A trail shoe with grip.
