What you’re in for
Fifty kilometres of the Boudicca Way from Hope Church in Diss to Trowse Common on the edge of Norwich, through the South Norfolk villages the Iceni once held — Saxlingham Nethergate, Shotesham, the Roman town at Caistor. Half past eight in mid-September, ten hours with a final cut-off at half past six and others along the way, 150 places, and a Trail Runners Association licence. The path is a well-established long-distance route and, in the organiser's words, well marked with a generally good running surface — which is why it is pitched at first-time ultrarunners, by people who describe themselves as finishers rather than podium athletes.
Terrain and trail
Field edge, green lane, quiet road and village street across gently rolling South Norfolk, following the trail's own waymarkers. Firm in September, clay mud in the fields after rain, nothing steep. A road shoe with tread, or a light trail shoe.
