What you’re in for
Twenty-six miles from Oswestry on a route that changes every year and is only handed out on the morning, to plot on OS Explorer 240 before you set off. Navigation is the point. Ten hours, late February, and the forty-fourth running. An LDWA challenge event, which means walkers and runners together, a route description to navigate by rather than tape, checkpoints with food and drink, and a meal at the end. Entry is through the LDWA's own system, places are limited, and the ones in this list tend to fill early.
Terrain and trail
The hills and valleys either side of the Welsh border west of Oswestry: field path, lane, woodland and open hill, muddy in February. A trail shoe with grip.
