Llŷn Peninsula, Gwynedd
Black Sheep Events is the racing arm of Beautifully Brutal, a Llŷn Peninsula outfit that has been putting on events since 2016, when their first race was 75 miles of the Wales Coast Path with fifty entrants. Everything they run is on the Llŷn: the November winter ultra over Yr Eifl and along the Mariners Trail, the Pilgrims Trail races along the North Wales Pilgrims Way to Aberdaron, and SheUltra, the women-only 50k from Abersoch to Pwllheli that they call the biggest all-women ultra going. The house style is inclusive. Most of their races have no cut-offs, hikers start early and runners later, and the pilgrim events are as much a day out on the coast path as a race. The winter ultra is the exception: twelve hours, full kit and a kit check at registration. Finish three in a year and there is a Triple Crown medal for it.
