What you’re in for

The Rock Up n' Run format: register from six, pay on the night if online entries have closed, run, then collect a jumble medal and a drink. It is a club night with a bib rather than a race weekend, and it is pitched that way. The June running of the 5k or 10k from Cromwell Bottom. The course runs from Cromwell Bottom nature reserve, between Brighouse and Elland, onto the Calder & Hebble towpath and back — a 5k out-and-back, run twice for the 10k. The reserve is a reclaimed stretch of the Calder valley with lakes, wetland and woodland on the canal's doorstep.

Terrain and trail

Surfaced towpath and reserve paths, flat, with a little gravel and a wooded section at the reserve end. Easy ground for a midweek evening, and about the prettiest of the Grim evening venues on a summer night. The events are cup-less, so bring your own cup or bottle for the water at the finish. Over-ear headphones are not allowed, and there may be an unmarshalled road crossing.
