What you’re in for

The Rock Up n' Run format: register from six, pay on the night if online entries have closed, run, then collect a jumble medal and a drink. It is a club night with a bib rather than a race weekend, and it is pitched that way. A summer evening 5k or 10k on the towpath from the Boathouse, with a drink after. The course is the Leeds & Liverpool Canal towpath from the Boathouse at Saltaire, an out-and-back beside Salts Mill and the World Heritage village, turning at a marshal and coming back. Saltaire station is a minute from the start, so you can get here from Leeds or Bradford without thinking about it.

Terrain and trail

Surfaced towpath, flat, with the odd ramp at a bridge or lock. Good, fast ground and one of the easiest courses to run well on. The winter events can be icy in the shaded stretches and the organiser says so; the summer ones share the path with plenty of walkers and cyclists, so run with your eyes up. Feed stations roughly every three miles with drinks, sweets and cake, and the events are cup-less, so bring your own cup or bottle. A GPX is supplied and not every junction has a marshal, so know where the turn is. Over-ear headphones are not allowed, and some road crossings are unmarshalled.
