What you’re in for
Twenty-six or eighteen miles of the West Pennine moors, tracks and reservoirs from Greenmount above Bury, in mid-March — the forty-first running, nine hours, with a cut-off at seven and a half miles on the long route. An LDWA challenge event, which means walkers and runners together, a route description to navigate by rather than tape, checkpoints with food and drink, and a meal at the end. Entry is through the LDWA's own system, places are limited, and the ones in this list tend to fill early.
Terrain and trail
Moorland track, peat and tussock on Holcombe and the Turton moors, reservoir road and field path between. Wet and exposed in March. A trail shoe with grip.
