What you’re in for
Fifty-two kilometres point to point across East Lancashire from Corporation Park in Blackburn to Trawden, by way of the four Panopticons — Colourfields at the start, the Halo above Haslingden, the Singing Ringing Tree over Burnley and the Atom at Wycoller — with 1,430m of climb and ten hours from an eight o'clock start on the fourth Saturday in May. Parts of the Pennine Way, Rossendale Way and Pennine Bridleway round the foot of Boulsworth Hill. Some navigation needed: you get a map, GPX and written instructions, and a compass is mandatory. Eighteen and over, no dogs.
Terrain and trail
Parkland and lane out of Blackburn, then moorland track, grassy hillside and reservoir path across the Rossendale and Pendle uplands, with flagged path and bog on the Pennine Way stretch and the Wycoller valley to finish. Wet on the tops in May. A trail shoe with grip.
