What you’re in for
Twelve and a half, seventeen, twenty-one or twenty-six and a half miles from Ralph Allen School on Claverton Down, through Bathford, Avoncliff, Hinton Charterhouse, Norton St Philip and Wellow on the Cotswold edge south of Bath, in late April. Thirteen hours, checkpoints with a lot of cake, and a school-run challenge walk that has become a fixture for runners too. Self-navigated from the route description.
Terrain and trail
Canal towpath along the Kennet & Avon, limestone field path and lane on the hills south of Bath, woodland and village street — rolling, with short steep climbs, and April mud in the fields. A trail shoe, or a road shoe with tread.
