What you’re in for
Loops out of Bath Racecourse on Lansdown and down through the city: 50km with around 1,000m of climb on the organiser's figures, a 29km with 650m, and a 10km with 200m. Past the Royal Crescent, along the Avon, and out into the hills that ring the city, which do the rest. March, so the first Ultra Challenge of the year and a cool one. An Ultra Challenge event, which means walkers, joggers and runners on the same course, signed with pink arrows and glow sticks after dark, with a covered rest stop every twelve kilometres or so — food, drink, medics, toilets — and a bigger one every twenty-five. Runners can enter with a target time; most of the field will be walking.
Terrain and trail
Lane, field path and woodland on the hills around Bath, pavement through the city and towpath along the Avon. The climbs are short and steep — the racecourse sits on top of one — and the descents can be greasy in March. Signed. A road shoe with tread or a light trail shoe.
