What you’re in for
Fifty-nine miles of the Cheviots in December from Ingram in the Breamish valley: 95km with 3,962m of climb, 24 hours, and not waymarked. The organiser's own words are that navigational skills are required and the marshals on the hill are safety, not aid stations. One of the hardest winter ultras in England for the ground it is on.
Terrain and trail
Peat, tussock, bog and open hill for most of it, with the Cheviot's summit plateau the worst of the bog and the border ridge exposed to whatever is blowing. Snow and ice are normal. Full winter mountain kit, real navigation in the dark, and a shoe you would take onto a fell in January.

Cut-offs
Their own words: "The route will NOT be waymarked" and "navigational skills are required". Safety marshals are posted along the course but are not aid stations. A drop bag goes to Barrowburn at the 26 mile mark. Kit is checked at registration and spot-checked on the line.
