What you’re in for
The opening round of the G3 winter trail series, starting from Newlands Corner on the North Downs above Guildford. Runners choose 10km or 15km on off-road routes through ancient yew woodland and along chalk ridges, with steep, muddy banks and technical descents; the organiser gives about 250m of climb. It starts at 08:00 sharp, often at sunrise, so arrive 45 minutes early. The series has a 300-runner limit and often sells out. Entry includes chip timing, water, a post-race brownie and banana, and a choice of medal or a tree planted. Parking is free. Routes are about 98% off-road with some road crossings.
