What you’re in for
Half the Fellsman: thirty miles from Redshaw to Threshfield with 1,280m of climb — 4,200 feet and more on the organiser's figures — over Dodd Fell, Fleet Moss, Buckden Pike and Great Whernside on the same Saturday in late April, with thirteen of the main event's checkpoints and the same Scout volunteers running them. The third running. Navigated with map and compass, GPX allowed alongside, and the organiser wants fit, experienced runners or walkers for it — the terrain is the Fellsman's second half, not a soft version of it.
Terrain and trail
The Dales watershed: peat bog and grough on Fleet Moss and the Buckden Pike crossing, tussock and heather, flagstone in patches, and the long rough descent off Great Whernside to Wharfedale. Wet and exposed in April. A fell shoe with grip.

Thirteen hilltop and roadside checkpoints over the second half of the Fellsman course. Same kit list and the same expectation that entrants can navigate. Unpinned: the organiser names Redshaw as the start and OS Open Names has no record for it.
Train for it: routes near the start
Routes starting within 20 km of Redshaw checkpoint, Hawes to Ingleton road, North Yorkshire, nearest first. Each one has a free GPX file and a TRP grade, so you can rehearse the ground before race day.
