What you’re in for

A half marathon and a 10K from the field at Hawkswick Cote between Kettlewell and Littondale, in June: 22.8km with 900m of climb on the half, which is a lot for the distance and the reason it is the hardest of the Due North trilogy. Up out of upper Wharfedale onto the fell and back down, with drink stations on the way, fully waymarked, seventeen and over. The middle race of the three, after Burnsall and before Malham.

Terrain and trail

Riverside meadow and lane to start, then steep grassy fell-side, limestone track and moor top with the drop back into the dale at the end. Firm on the limestone in June, boggy on the tops after rain. A trail shoe with grip.
