What you’re in for
A figure of eight from Bakewell through the White Peak: a northern loop of 52km past Chatsworth with about 1,250m of climb, and a southern loop of 48km with 900m — 100km and 2,150m together on the organiser's figures. Either loop stands alone as a half; there is a 73km, a 25km and a ten-mile. Early July, through Saturday night for the continuous distance. An Ultra Challenge event, which means walkers, joggers and runners on the same course, signed with pink arrows and glow sticks after dark, with a covered rest stop every twelve kilometres or so — food, drink, medics, toilets — and a bigger one every twenty-five. Runners can enter with a target time; most of the field will be walking.
Terrain and trail
Limestone dale, riverside path, walled field track and parkland — the White Peak rather than the gritstone Dark Peak, so firm and fast for the most part, with steep climbs out of the dales and a few muddy field crossings. Signed. A trail shoe.
