The course
What you’re in for
A rugged half marathon round the Isle of Portland from the Masonic Hall in Victoria Square, starting at midday on the same day as the ONER so you can watch that go through: coast path, exposed cliff-top, quarry track and a little road, with one checkpoint at Portland Bill about five miles in. Self-navigated, with a GPS device or map and compass compulsory. Not a road half built for a fast time — in the organiser's words, a proper endurance-style half with a raw coastal feel.
Terrain and trail
Limestone: quarry track, rocky cliff-top path, the stone-strewn ground of the Bill and the West Weares, with a few stretches of pavement and road. Exposed to whatever the Channel is doing, and the terrain changes every mile. A trail shoe with grip.
