What you’re in for
Fifty-seven miles between the two cities on the River Kelvin, Sustrans Route 754, the Forth and Clyde Canal, the Union Canal and the Water of Leith, from the Riverside Museum to the athletics track at Saughton. Towpath, tarmac and concrete, and only 231 m of climb — GB Ultras recommend road shoes, which tells you what kind of fifty miles it is. Marked with tape and signage. Seven checkpoints, sixteen hours.
