What you’re in for
Two hundred miles, every other year — next in 2028 — from the docks at Hull along the Humber to the start of the Yorkshire Wolds Way at Hessle, the full 79 miles of the Wolds Way over the chalk hills to Filey Brigg, then the whole Cleveland Way in reverse down the coast and over the moors to Helmsley. Sixty hours, with a hard 24-hour cut-off at Filey for the first 88 miles. 310.5km with 7,400m of climb. Start at eight from Queen Victoria Docks village hall. The cut-offs run the race: Millington at 40 miles by eleven hours, Ganton at 74 by twenty, Filey at 88 by twenty-four, Ravenscar at 108 by thirty-one, Saltburn at 139 by forty, Kildale at 154 by forty-five, Clay Bank at 165 by forty-eight, Scarth Nick at 177 by fifty-two and a half. The organiser says plainly that completion will be low.
Terrain and trail
Riverside path and towpath out of Hull, then chalk track, dry valley and woodland edge for the length of the Wolds Way — firm, rolling and fast if you let it be — before the cliff path and moor of the Cleveland Way. Three nights for most finishers. Full kit throughout, drop bags where allowed, and a tracker the organiser watches. Shoes for chalk and for moor; you will want both. Self-navigated on the Cleveland Way's own waymarks plus the organiser's route description; carry the map. Cup-free checkpoints with water, Coke and basic food, drop bags at the points named. A tracker is included, and the organiser watches them — they will ring you if you wander. Full mandatory kit is checked at registration and anyone found without it on the course is out.
