What you’re in for
A demanding off-road half marathon along the Durham Coast path, formerly run by the National Trust. The route mixes gently rolling cliff-top running with steep drops into and climbs out of a series of denes, including the woods of Hawthorn Dene, and there are around 320 steps along the way. Total climbing is close to 500m. It starts from Noses Point in Seaham and finishes further down the coast, with a free shuttle bus back to the start and parking at Spectrum Business Park. The course is taped and marshalled with two checkpoints, and there is a 4-hour limit.
